Community
Development

Building and sustaining stronger and more resilient communities is a top priority of the economic development districts. Community development is important to the welfare and livelihoods of the communities we serve. Each economic development district serves a unique region of the state and provides services tailored to the communities within. Economic development districts offer the following services that aid in identifying and prioritizing community development needs:

  • Needs Assessments
  • Project Development
  • Citizen Surveys
  • Strategic Planning
  • Blight Studies
  • Grant Writing
  • Grant Administration
  • Comprehensive Planning
  • Zoning Ordinances

Housing
Development

The availability of safe, affordable housing in our communities is vital to house our citizens and our workforce. Without housing, businesses cannot attract their workforce, and communities cannot thrive. Housing is equally important to the State’s economic success.

Economic development districts work directly with our counties and communities, providing a grass-roots approach to positively impacting the growth and sustainability of our region. There are a number of housing-related services that many of our districts can provide, including:

  • Housing Education for Communities
  • Housing Planning (Needs Assessments)
  • Housing Development Technical Assistance
  • New Housing Construction (for Sale or Rent)
  • Housing Rehabilitation Programs
  • Homebuyer Assistance Programs
  • Homebuyer Education
  • Foreclosure Prevention Education

Business
Development

Fostering business development and encouraging businesses to create and retain jobs within Nebraska is vital to the growth of our state. Without local businesses and employment opportunities, Nebraska communities cannot attract the needed workforce to grow. Community development such as housing, educational and recreational opportunities can only happen when businesses are thriving. There are a number of business-related services that many of our districts provide, including:

  • Business consulting
  • Financial packaging
  • Gap financing
  • Transition planning

Transportation
Planning

The transportation of people and goods plays a critical role in securing the “Good Life.” Nebraska’s economic development districts are available to serve as a liaison with communities, the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) and other stakeholders to identify transportation priorities, create plans and secure funding to address the transportation needs of residents and businesses across the state. Some EDDs also serve as Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO), which provide a single voice for transportation planning and funding in metropolitan areas.
